Following last night's #edchatie discussion about AI in Irish education, this will all be of interest to teachers here.
I wrote about the messages teachers should be wary of, messages meant to push them headlong into using AI in and for the classroom.

In this first part of a series I address:

"AI will save you time!"
“You’re avoiding AI out of fear!”
"It's just a tool!"
"Using AI makes you a cutting edge teacher!"
Resisting AI Mania in Schools - Part I
Here are the messages to push back on

We have to discuss environmental implications of AI! Not spoken about enough unfortunately.
We have a duty to inform ourselves and our students of these ethical issues and model good practice.
Do we have to use AI for every post, lesson, image generation? #edchatie

Air pollution and carbon emissions are well-known environmental costs of AI. But water consumption is also an issue.

"The amount of AI-generated child abuse images found on the internet is increasing at a chilling rate, according to a national watchdog."
These disturbingly realistic images can be generated from real children's images from social media.

I wondered what the maths classroom would be like after 2yr absence! If the hype was true, ChatGPT would change T&L! Well guess what? Not much is different! Human connection, "mess" of maths learning in student copies, asking students to explain their thinking. No AI can replace that! #BeyondTheHype
