His fingers settle on Magatsu-Izanagi’s cold hipbones. “Can you hear me, Adachi-san?”

He’s in a trance, he realizes, but he’s powerless to stop his fingertips from brushing cautiously against the slightly bloody entrance, from pushing in deeper, except the sides feel fleshy instead of porcelain, as if there’s meat further down.

And then he’s gone. One moment, the relentless sound of rain and the din of Aiya’s hammer his ears, the next, he hears squishing.

Because his feet are squishing. The surface underneath him is raw meat.
