All sounds (other than kazoo) were samples/midi in freeware.
I used lmms as the audio sequencer/DAW, and then free plugins for guitar, drums, orchestral instruments, mandolin. Bass was just a triple oscillator. Learned a fair bit to use on whatever comes next.
