Oh yeah, Bane fans got dealt a pretty hard blow when Disney took control, but Timothy Zahn rereleased his latest Thrawn series and it's considered canon. Definitely worth a shot. It's like if the Art of War by Sun Tzu was given sci-themes and highly intriguing plot.

Timothy Zahn's Thrawn series and Drew Karpyshyn's Darth Bane series are also each some of the best sci-fi I've read. Star wars gets a lot of slack for being over rated but if you know where to look I think it's safe to say it's entirely accurately rated.
