Currently, there is a court case happening to decide whether trans women can legally be recognised as female. regardless of our ID. regardless of our lived experience. regardless of the centuries of our existence, and i have to say it: british theatre is complicit in this.

The engagement with this and the (civil!) discussions in the replies far exceeded my expectations. It's only fair that I ask you to put your pencils down and tell you what was on my answer key.

To cis folks who consider themselves sympathetic to the cause of trans liberation:
If you were asked "What makes a trans woman a woman?", or some less-respectful variant of that by a transphobe, would you be able to answer?
Repeating a shibboleth with no substantiation isn't working.

La ausencia de la literatura dramática en el programa de nuestro país en las grandes ferias literarias internacionales es triste, inexcusable y obedece a un viejo prejuicio cuya pervivencia es vergonzosa. Sin la literatura dramática el retrato de nuestras letras es incompleto y más frágil.
