Playing around with an adapter that let's you attach a smartphone to the eyepiece of a telescope. Here's Jupiter and its four large moons, taken earlier tonight.

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

We can even dance in the dark.

The constellation Orion on the left faces off against bright Jupiter and nearby star Aldebaran on the right, with Mars refereeing at the top.

Don't know what went on here.

My father was born 105 years ago today. He would be angered and ashamed at what this country is becoming. We need to fix this, now.

Still exploring settings on my phone, and searching for a tripod. All my sky pictures thus far have been handhelds. This is the moon (not full) and Mars again, at about 1 o'clock up from the moon.

Mars in the center with the star Pollux above it, with Castor to the right. I like this photo because it nicely shows more stars than I can see with my eyes alone in my heavily light-polluted sky.

Tried to take a photo of the moon-Venus conjunction, but between the clouds and a phone camera not really up to the task, I didn't get results I liked. I did take one shot then messed around with it and got this moody looking thing which I could imagine on the cover of a book of spooky stories.

New garbage bag. I'm so glad they've found a use for all those invasive pythons.

Just over an inch or so here in south Durham, and that's all for this storm. Pretty cold, so don't expect much melting tomorrow.

Bonus astrophotographs. The constellation of Orion and Jupiter and possibly one or two moons. I say "possibly" since what I think might be moons might just be artifacts, or they may have been added in by whatever AI algorithm my phone uses to process these photos.

I discovered the astrophotography setting on my phone, so here is a much clearer picture of Venus and Saturn playing in the trees, as compared to my earlier Moon and Jupiter photo. Saturn is relatively dim compared to Venus because Saturn is a LOT further away.

Highly recommended.

The full moon and Mars are on a date. The blobs are pine trees. Taken with a crappy phone camera with crappy camera software by someone who doesn't know much about photography. You should go outside and check it out.
