I understood all of this without blinking. (Native English speaker who also speaks marginally decent French, is trying to learn Italian, and grew up going to Mexico.)

What I don’t need is some odiferous guy next to me on the plane who just spent the last hour doing airport box jumps.

Fuck this guy. Breastfed a kid after massive blood loss during delivery because I felt I had to. Turned out OK, but was a bit of a shit show (borderline needing a transfusion means milk doesn’t come in all that well). We have great, healthy alternatives to BFing now, do what works for you.

As a herniated-disc-in-the-past sciatica sufferer, this is real talk. All of a sudden my back/leg situation is fucking worse again, and I hate it.

Our neighbor got the sign test a decade ago, unprepared, and had a stern talking-to when he asked, “octagon? Triangle?”

This was 100% written to get the reaction it did (or a similar one). And I am certain the student had plans to complain even if the grade wasn’t this poor or if the TA had offered options to improve the mark. What an asshole.

I worked as a tutor at a college writing center, became an editor, & now read applications for scholarship orgs, & it was clear to me from the jump that this wasn’t just bad writing. (I have seen a lot of bad writing.) It’s begging to get called out for tone and sloppiness & feels like bait.

LOL. First thought. A grammar pet peeve.

If you have a green egg, smoke it. Preferably with bacon draped over the top.

Why does he always look like someone is operating him as a hand puppet?

I guffawed when I saw that headline. He is many things. Nimble is *not* one of them.

Right? I spend too many hours walking the dog whilst listening to podcasts, and I am irrationally angry that “In Bed With the Right,” “If Books Could Kill,” and “Kill James Bond” are not on this awards list that I did not know existed until today.

It is shocking and very sad.

Agreed. I would love to see a full transcript.

This is terrible to hear. Your work was one of the things I have relied on in the last year. May you land somewhere great and keep telling the truth.

Yes to this whole thread— was trying to articulate this to someone yesterday.

I am so appreciative of my neighborhood for keeping these community traditions alive. We have a little costume parade (most adults dress up, too) & then all the kids race thru the neighborhood. Ppl have fire pits & tables set up & everyone socializes. It’s lovely. Wish it were this way everywhere.

It’s so disappointing to hear abt all the AI use. Both of my college kids hate AI for all the uses & all the reasons. Younger one is enjoying the process of learning new things SO MUCH— was consulting me on a paper yesterday & then took advtg of an in-person mentor review. People knowledge, not AI.

Fascinating. I like it! For an additional and different take, have you read Jon Clinch’s Marley?

Yes.

Yes! Raw in salad, grilled, braised, julienned and added to soups. Love its bitter bite when raw and the more complex flavor it takes on when cooked! 😊

All black licorice, from the Aussie kind to the salty Dutch. Chicories— endive, radicchio, escarole, etc. Corn nuts— both the fancy ones from Mitica and the ones from gas stations. Dry ramen noodles— crunchy hiking snack.

Endive is the best. I love it so much I know the supermarket code for it (4543), as many cashiers do not. Raw and crunchy in a salad. Braised. Grilled. As delightful appetizer cups filled with citrus segments, herbs, goat cheese, slivered almonds, and a drizzle of vinaigrette. 🤷🏼‍♀️
