I had first-hand encounter with confiscated pangolins at a rescue center run by Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (svw.vn)

One pangolin had to have its left hind leg amputated due to an injury caused by a snare

It was a privilege to take part in a feeding session and witness the animals in action

I felt I had to set the record straight.

Did I not have reservations about speaking out?

Of course, I did. I was terrified.

I gave careful thought to the consequences of speaking out, such as facing the kind of bully and smears👇

Here’s the backstory behind the making of Blame in response to @angierasmussen.bsky.social

During shooting in Thailand,I was shocked by Daszak’s fast & loose with facts, his refusal to acknowledge his conflict of interest,& his denial of his gain-of-function res in collaboration with Wuhan lab

By framing the covid origins controversy as a left-right issue, labelling all lab-leak
supporters as conspiracy theorists, & failing to scrutinise the conduct of scientists, Blame misses the mark by a wide margin—risking further polarisation of the debate & deepening public distrust in science

Why does the covid origins debate remain so polarising & acrimonious?

What does this say about the state of science & the public discourse of science?

My @theguardian.com op-ed debut, from a sociological perspective

Include backstory behind the film Blame

The Covid ‘lab leak’ theory isn’t just a rightwing conspiracy – pretending that’s the case is bad for science | Jane Qiu
While figures like Steve Bannon have exploited the issue, scientists have done themselves no favours by shutting down legitimate inquiry, says award-winning science writer Jane Qiu

Kristian Andersen: "Natural viruses mutate rapidly when placed in tissue culture. SARS-CoV-2 does not, strongly implying it already evolved there."

Andrew Rambaut: "Lab passaging might also generate this mutation."

Wrote this earlier but reposting now that the lab leak hypothesis is gaining ground. There were multiple interlocking mistakes that led to disaster in 2020. If it was Gain of Function research that created SARS2, the lack of airborne precautions guaranteed that it would spread.

LOL
I don’t personally give a flying fuck if the CIA thinks that COVID19 came from a lab leak. They’re not known for their scientific acumen. I listen to the experts in the field, such as @angierasmussen.bsky.social.

Interesting comment on @mikepompeo Dec 5 lab leak tweet

By Jon Myers:

"As an intelligence officer for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in 2019, based on message traffic, I briefed that it came from the lab. There were no objections to that. Then, months later….the story changed. Why?"
