I was so good at the doctors this morning, so I get tea, a cookie, a book, and a plush. Them’s the rules. Also, I need @sgj.bsky.social to release a new book every time I have a scary appointment. I’ll have my doc write the prescription.

A spot of good news!
Andy Cox, editor of Black Static magazine, has a new horror magazine! It's called Remains. Issue one is available now, and issue two, out in April, contains a new story from yours truly. I love Andy's publications, so I'm very excited to be a part of this new one!

Need a Victorian ghost story for your holiday reading?
THE ATROPINE TREE has all your favorite festive ingredients. It’s like Downton Abbey set in Hell House, directed by Charles Dickens, after someone slipped some Datura into his cocoa. 🌱

The annual writing retreat has begun with the traditional tribute paid to The Lady Lake, so that she might bless my wordcount. 🌊

One of the books I look forward to every year. I’ve found so many new-to-me favorite authors in these volumes. And I’m extra delighted this year to see my work listed in the honorable mentions! Day made!

My first time as the #saturdaylibrarian at my new library! Eight straight hours on the reference desk. Deep breaths. I can do this. @coreyfarrenkopf.bsky.social are you on this weekend, too? Solidarity!

If you have to work Halloween night, best case scenario is getting to work in a haunted library!

I love doing community collaborations for the library. Today I was at a nature center for a program on identifying bumblebees. Which ultimately resulted in me and two naturalists sitting in a copse of coneflowers discussing the exquisite roundness of bee bums. Best job.

Fabulous new ink from Chris Deleski at WeMeraki! I love it so much. A beautiful Victorian house. I’m sure it’s very lovely inside and not dangerous or sinister at all. 👀👻 #newtattoo #hauntedhouse

It’s raining. I have tea, a book, a sleeping cat. And a sword, in case anyone interrupts me, I guess.
(Starting Whalefall by Daniel Kraus. First ten pages are excellent!)

Thomas Brown did this amazing cover art for my collection coming in October from Bad Hand Books. I will never get tired of seeing art created in response to my stories. That meeting of creativities feels spiritual. I get the same feeling when a song or painting inspires a story. Anyway, fuck AI.

And this is Ursula K. FeLine and if she loves you, she will rub her teeth on you. If she doesn’t, she will ponch you with her spicy beans. She loves me. I love her.

This is Merricat Hecate Laveau. She is made of pure nightmare and I love her more than I love oxygen.
