And when they got to the point where they were utilizing the hardware to its fullest potential, we had Halo 2 -- an OG Xbox game that looked almost like a next-gen title.

I can take or leave the mecha and varied combat styles, but I'm totally on board with everything else. I've got my copy coming to me hopefully on Thursday. I pre-ordered the Best Buy one that comes with a mini metal poster and an acrylic stand.

My choice is Kentucky Route Zero even though I wouldn't consider it a horror game as a whole. There are sequences in it that really ratchet up the creep factor in the way that an exceptionally creepy episode of The Twilight Zone might.

Silent Hill 3. I played the PC version back in the day. It was a fascinating follow-up to the first Silent Hill, and it nailed the atmosphere right from the start.

I still remember how amazing the Resident Evil remake was back in the day. The backdrops had no business looking that realistic on the humble GameCube.

Solid list. I'm pleasantly surprised at your inclusion of Rygar. It's a largely-forgotten classic.

The only game I would add is Faxanadu. In my opinion, it was way ahead of its time. It was almost like playing Skyrim as side-scroller on NES.

I never owned a PS2. I played some great games on all the others, but my best overall experience was on Dreamcast. It was the first console that made me feel like I was playing high-end arcade games at home with Crazy Taxi and Soul Calibur, and Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage was a masterpiece.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem Remastered would be amazing. Nintendo has just been sitting on that IP for over two decades.

Kentucky Route Zero. No spoilers, but the themes in the final act really did it for me. The entire game is a deep, immersive, and meaningful experience. Highly recommended.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215. Such an innovative title that made great use of the unique features of the DS. I never played its sequel Last Window (never released in the US), but I want both games to be released in a collection for Switch. If they can bring back Another Code, they can bring back Hotel Dusk.

I'm going through it right now and I can confirm: It's TENSE. Very nice to look at when horrific things aren't happening, though.

I totally get it. Save the politics for someplace else.

So, with that in mind, here's something I recently did to my PS5. I bought the Matte Black dbrand Darkplates 2.0 and one of their leather middle skins. The middle skin was tricky to get exactly right, but I'm happy with the way it turned out.

ActRaiser for SNES. It deftly combined sim elements with side-scrolling action to create something that felt fresh and interesting all the way through. And the music was astoundingly good for 1991. (Sadly, the overcomplicated gameplay in Actraiser Renaissance sunk what could've been a great remake.)

Kentucky Route Zero. This game is normally described as a magical realist adventure, but there's so much more to it than that. It's like an episode of The Twilight Zone with a dreamlike narrative; and it deals with serious, even existential concepts so beautifully that it had me in tears by the end.

Too many games for me to list, but these are a few of my biggest retro favorites:

What are four different games from four different systems that made you into the gamer you are today?

Post a random game from your collection Saturday!

This homage to classic action platformers is itself practically a classic at this point.

Faxanadu. Doesn't get nearly enough attention. (I'd love to see a remake.)

Scorn Special Edition Controller?

It's not much, but Dbrand has three see-through color options for their PS5 Retro Darkplates: atomic purple, ice blue, and smoke black. I've thought about getting one myself, although I might go with their opaque Retro Gray option instead.

Going old school for this one.

POV: You're about to experience a masterpiece.

Dbrand is doing this in a very limited color range with their Retro Darkplates for PS5. (They used to do orange too, but they discontinued that option for some reason.)
