On why Trump is wrong on climate, renewable energy, the next economic growth cycle, on powering data centres cost-efficiently, and on geo-economics. Very good by the FT‘s Gillian Tett.

The one consistent organising principle of this Trump presidency is its relentless support for fossil fuels. For journalists, this means that without proper energy literacy they can no longer cover politics. Reading general news coverage that is energy-illiterate has become almost useless.

To be clear, the centre ground on net zero is that the public are broadly supportive - even if there is some conditionality to that support.

The idea that net zero is a source of significant electoral discomfort for Labour is a zombie political fact.

100 days of the Trump admin isn't reason to celebrate for those who work in climate and sustainability.

But - is there a silver lining?

Climate terminology is impenetrable to most. Perhaps this is an opportunity to take a proper look at how we communicate:

100 days - a silver lining? - Blakeney
Looking back at the first 100 days of the new U.S. administration isn’t much fun for anyone involved in the world of climate, nature and sustainability.

This is *really* important: the reason electricity prices are high is the high cost of gas & that market rate is set by gas prices. One of the loudest calls at Everything Electric last week was to decouple from gas prices, so we benefit from cheaper renewables.

The net zero economy grew 10% last year📈

so it's now worth over £80bn GVA and supports nearly 1 million jobs

would be madness to advocate against net zero when it means growth & energy security
