I don't know know how copyright works, but I know when I commission album art I ask upfront for the cost to use it as the cover art and for promoting the album, if I can alter it to fit a banner ad or such. and if I own it. Then I get the price.

Fascinating. I couldn't imagine writing to fit a layout. My book might be better, but my game might be worse. Although, my manuals are bricks of impossible to parse blocks of text...
