him of fast (former)
I ask it to do the only task it is notably designed for (scrape the internet) and even then it fails over half the time

Maintaining a spreadsheet of spare Steam keys and asking it to fetch the URLs for a list of games is a coin flip every time. How??? This is the one thing you do by design

fine, have a different take, i think the only way the technology can even approach a worthwhile future is to relentlessly hate its current iteration out of existence, the same way self driving cars are bottlenecked by elon not being publicly executed and tesla imploding

china tech might be ok

the argument you make assumes that all content in the datasets is obtained through legal means, which is blatantly false. hence the stance of both art having value and AI being a destructive parrot, it can reproduce works it doesn't even have the rights to, pushing those stolen from out of the space

absurd overall take. the art has value and the slop machine is only profiting from that art through piracy and skirting any amount of licensing fees.

they're also profiting from child porn. oops! surely this would never come back to bite anyone who uses th- oh

not so relevant for bamco and fromsoft's series that is the real life equivalent of an infinite money exploit but especially for indies without a preexisting audience it's really important to help people find your stuff, don't take that shit for granted unless you enjoy your audience of 3 people

see it's funny because I like DQ and Zelda and I generally do not like Dark Souls so if someone described it to me like that I'd walk away very disappointed

also re: previous post, that only works if all recommendations happen organically between people but storefronts exist and need categories

that doesn't mean it's not a JRPG at all because clearly there are influences, but as a simple descriptor for the game it is not sufficient and must be supplemented with other descriptors to make sense

the curse with JRPGs as a genre at all is that it barely suffices as a descriptor for JRPGs
November 30, 2025 at 6:04 PM
i do kinda think that undermines the most useful facet of the existence of genres in the modern day, which is to make sure that people who like things can more easily find other things that will suit their tastes

i don't think many people call DS a JRPG because the ARPG descriptor is right there
November 30, 2025 at 6:02 PM
just casually perusing this thread and all it has taught me is that genres are useless when used like this

if you described dark souls as simply a jrpg you'd be less accurate than the dork who walks by and goes "kingdom hearts but berserk", even if they deserve a push down a flight of stairs

Heard my mother say she voted for one of them and said "but she's so eloquent"

Told her that Nazis can be eloquent too but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be punched in the face

But just goes to show old white folks are easily influenced

FvD +4 is an absolute travesty. they should be at 0 and chased out of the country ideally

the gamecenter cx episode on derby stallion is the greatest of all time honestly

I'm actually pretty flexible on game prices, I think what's more important is that you identify your core audience and put a price on the game that makes those exact people go "yes, I will pay that amount"

I think there's a sweet spot for this idea and it is Hi-Fi Rush
October 24, 2025 at 6:39 AM
The most confusing part to me is always the wording that implies that these companies are owed your money. They are not?? There are a bazillion competing forms of entertainment?? They could've upped the prices ages ago, they didn't for the longest time because it'd be dumb, hell it's a dumb move now

The value of creative endeavors is in the eye of the beholder. If you can't sway the consumer at your chosen price you have fucked up, regardless of any math or economics involved. If that makes it unsustainable, the project was bad to begin with and deserves to fail.

I think the servers were having actual issues around this time, I recall getting into a game and having it take a cool 25 seconds to register individual moves.

Weird coincidence, but yeah.

this may be of interest to you github.com/pixeltris/Yg...

it's not quite full fledged and you will have to do a good bit of manual fiddling, but it's something

I've got a hunch that this is one of those offhand Farfa comments that he could probably justify but was picked up by the same mouthbreathers who end up on Scrubquotes every other week because Kazuya Mishima hellsweeps them 17 times
