For comparison, the picture at the top of this report (www.michiganseagrant.org/blog/2024/10...) includes me and was taken a year ago. I'm the one in the blue 'Disabled in STEM' shirt (I can feel it in my bones!). That's the difference between 1 and 2 years on T for yours truly.

Watson was not some unique genius. He happened to be in the right place at the right time

Science is a communal effort. The structure of DNA would have been discovered eventually

What actually slows scientific progress is institutional barriers that stop women and POC from becoming scientists

So many cool talks by folks in the Social Sciences, STEM Education, and Local Organizing Session at the ISNBS Symposium this morning! 🧑‍🔬🧪

"I should note that, yes, Ocean is her legal name. It’s not her birth name… because of course it’s not."

I know it wasn't the point of the article, but an entire paragraph was devoted to her name, including a link to her birth name. As a trans person, reading that made me super uncomfortable.

I was laughing until I realized that if I got down like that I don't know that I could get back up again. 💀

"Position yourself in the future, as not yourself..."

Nah. I think I shan't.

The "as a man or woman" feels so unnecessary there. It adds nothing to the sentence, so it feels like its only purpose is intentionally signaling a refusal to accept other genders.

Thank you for writing back to them!
