if you're going to force staff to use gen Al, at least quit pretending it's good for the planet. either you know better and you're not honest enough to be making Al policy for your workplace, or you don't know better & you're not informed enough to create Al policy for your workplace. /4

plus, now we're going to be burning through our personal need-to-stay-alive resources while also releasing another 10 Al scripts and all the resources the Al model will use to write those 10 pieces of code????/3

like, if it would take my coworker and i two weeks to write, test, and release a piece of code, and it takes the Al ten minutes to do the same thing plus a few hrs for my coworker and i to test/troubleshoot the Al's work, my coworker and i don't just cease to use resources for the next 13 days??? /2

it looks like clark swanson (tati westbrook's ex business partner) is the creator/exec. producer, which is why ep. 1 is about dramageddon. quick look at his linkedin- he used to run the world's biggest bitcoin mining operation, is currently pushing covid conspiracies, pushing the /2

if you're going to do in-person, PLEASE encourage or require masks. We're harming our communities by throwing superspreader events and not creating disease mitigation plans.

I’m meeting my older self for coffee tomorrow. I don’t know what she’ll have to say about the state of her world, but I trust her to break it to me gently. She’s always been kind like that.

She finishes her drink and walks outside to meet her ride. There’s no Uber for her to call yet, but I call one for myself. I’m ferried to an Amtrak station she’s never heard of, and I sleep on the train car most of the way home to a city that's never once crossed her mind.

As a parting gift, I offer her a poem I’ve been working on. She immediately spots the weaknesses and marks it up with a shrewd, skilled pen. Whatever edits she makes, we’ll both probably grow to hate the final piece and spend the rest of our lives picking it apart.

She was so sure she could avoid regrets if she was just good enough, and she’s not ready to understand that her biggest fears about me are some of my biggest blessings.

Diplomatically, she promises to pray for me. I thank her, and I let her know I thank the heavens for her all the time.
March 4, 2025 at 1:08 AM
She asks good questions, and she’s smart enough to fill in some gaps in my answers, even when they disappoint her. I’m far from her worst nightmare, but I can tell I’m not the role model she’d been expecting.
March 4, 2025 at 1:08 AM
She’s less excited to learn that everyone was very right about one thing- she does become a teacher, and she’s good at it.
March 4, 2025 at 1:08 AM
I say that we get to do a lot of things over the years, and her eyes light up when I tell her that someday, she’ll get paid to write, she’ll get paid to make art, and all those hours coding Myspace pages will help her land a title that doesn’t even exist yet in her own time.
March 4, 2025 at 1:08 AM
She wants to know which “real job” we landed, eager to show me she’s savvy enough to understand that writing will never pay the bills.
