Disability IN-CLUSIVE sustainable & active travel -- Exeter
@in-clusive.bsky.social
Working for a city where walking, cycling, wheeling & public transport are safe, efficient & accessible for everyone, including those with disabilities who cannot drive. Greater Exeter, UK.
https://in-clusive.uk/
We've written to 2 councillors re missing dropped kerbs creating a #disabledaccess issue.

The bus stop on Topsham Rd's separated from the pelican crossing by the crem road. No dropped kerbs! If you use a wheelchair/wheeled-walker you've a problem

New guidance out from the Government today on Critical Safety Issues ie a street layout or condition that is associated with an increased risk of collisions for people walking, wheeling or cycling.

We know these only too well. Will there be any funding to fix?

Have your say on Barnfield Rd, Exeter.
If you find the existing pavements too narrow for your mobility scooter or are frustrated by vans parked across pavements & access points, why not speak up for better spaces for people who walk, wheel or cycle?

After the Rifford Rd, Exeter review workshop, DCC gave their feedback. Some ideas await Design Guidance, but here's one e.g.

We asked for your experiences in/near the @exeter.ac.uk
They replied to our report:
"Useful to hear these perspectives.
✅St German’s Rd is within scope of our cycling/walking infra review. We’ll pick this up.
✅Streatham Dr, we plan construction of new pavement, Queen's Dr - Reed Hall"

A supporter got in touch to share this Exeter research paper re road changes (which we'd say, it possibly incorrectly frames as "cycling" interventions).

Why not complete this to ensure your views as an active/sustainable traveller living with disability are heard?

We want to expand our panel of volunteers providing lived experience feedback of navigating Exeter's streets.
Do you live with a disability, use wheeling/walking/cycling/scooting/public transport (rather than cars) to get about?

Do you travel into or around either of the #Exeter university campuses? Do you have any thoughts on how #disabledaccess might be improved for #activetravel?

Reposts welcome

Let’s normalize complaining about a lack of accessible non-standard cycle parking in the same way drivers complain about car parking.

Disabled drivers get priority spaces near the front door with wider access routes. Why not disabled cyclists?
Or come to that family cycles?

'What could be changed to make travel easier?”
Would you like YOUR voice heard?
We are looking for people living with #disability to share their experience of #Exeter #publictransport with a Councillor who wants to listen. There’ll be other opportunities to be heard so do get in touch.
Pls share

Very pleased to note this:

"Groups representing people with disabilities should be included in the design
development process from an early stage & kept involved throughout."

(& about including young people too)

Pondering Newtown for the Live & Move survey, we noticed how the pavements have been shrunk to allow two way car flow. Too narrow for a wheelchair, obstructed by an estate agent's cars & people are having to walk in the road.
