No, the president can declare DOGE essential, have Elon pay them separately to keep working, and then DOGE could have decided to furlough everyone else and try to blame Dems for it

If House GOP had put together a bill that was toxic enough that they, not Dems, would’ve been blamed for the shutdown, I think Schumer would’ve happily filibustered it. As it is, I don’t think that’s what was on offer. I think this was a brutal choice and it’s not clear to me Schumer is in the wrong
