Obviously this isn't a steadfast, some people literally changed the course of human history and you can't replicate that. But even then, just slapping "genius" over their head robs them of their story. People see that word and think of them as some unknowable maverick who blessed us mere mortals.

The defeatist part comes from people using "genius" almost as a thought terminator as to why they or anybody else can't do what x person did. Only that person can do that, nobody else can hope to come close, because they were a genius, not a human who figured it out.
