5/6 𝐀 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. Our recent school attendance report found that a lack of enjoyment in school is a key reason why some young people don’t attend every day.

4/6 𝐀 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐆𝐂𝐒𝐄𝐬. An emphasis on supporting young people during the primary-to-secondary transition & the introduction of diagnostic English & maths tests in Year 8 to trigger extra support.

3/6 Evidence shows that oracy can boost attainment and improve employment prospects – that's why we have advocated for oracy’s inclusion in the curriculum alongside our partners @voice21oracy.bsky.social

2/6 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, which puts the ability to articulate ideas and engage with others through speaking and listening on par with reading and writing.

3/4 Why is this important?

Low attendance reduces GCSE pass rates by 40 percentage points, doubling the likelihood of young people ending up not in education, employment or training (NEET).

2/4 Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are disproportionately impacted by school absences - they are 4x more likely to be severely absent from school than their peers.
