Jefferson was an ambassador and liaison to the French government during the late 1780s. He used his observations of the French Revolution to help shape the documents that outlined the foundations of our duties as citizens.
(Remember: you can hate on the Founding Fathers while recognizing their work)

Feel however you like about the Founding Fathers - I certainly have my own being a US historian, especially with Jefferson - but they understood how tenuous the line between civilians and the government is, and that it is our duty to hold those with power accountable.

And please remember: protesting, activism, fighting, boycotting... It can take many forms and can be big or small acts.

The way I fight is by making sure collections in archives accurately reflect our messy history and not the idyllic narrative many politicians want to push.
