Since lawyer advertising is legal, I’m surprised that more aren’t trying to get these falsely detained and unnecessarily brutalized people as clients. Better call Saul.
If men with guns and masks tried to pull me out of my car, I'd fight back. Courts should reject any claims by the government that this is aggression by the person being detained, resisting arrest, or that they're a flight risk.

USCIS is going to make naturalization applicants prove that they have good character to become a U.S. citizen. Now, not committing crimes and paying your taxes when required is usually enough. Going forward applicants may need show more. USCIS memo: tinyurl.com/3zwbe8bz

Lots of reporting that folk knew they were coming but nothing I’ve seen on how they knew. Anyone with thoughts?

Query: How come no troops were sent to Dallas where there have been demonstrations and arrests in the fight against ICE? Seems that Trumpettes have a special hatred of California.

CUNY Citizenship Now! on Saturday provided free legal assistance to more than 300 green card holders with their naturalization applications at its annual Spring Citizenship Drive. Eligible applicants left with a completed citizenship application packet ready for submission to USCIS.

File your FAFSA early and have a better chance of receiving aid from programs with limited funds, like federal work-study. Go to studentaid.gov/FAFSA.

Legal note: Mainly accurate, but in most cases one can present evidence and witnesses in deportation hearings. That said, the “judges”answer to, and can be reversed by DOJ. As one federal judge said when reviewing a deportation hearing “they call anyone judges these days.”

I'm betting dollars to donuts, this one come about. Trump is a Russian tool. This is just more blah, blah, blah.
If it materializes (I’m skeptical, but we’ll see) this would be a welcome change to the administration’s policy.

We should immediately begin intelligence sharing again, too - Russia significantly escalated their attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure once we stopped sharing intelligence.

I'm still thinking that Trump DHS will never get to the point of arresting tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants. Logistics are almost impossible. Plus, wait until big agriculture, the construction industry and meat packing suits in the red states start weighing in. Military bases? Nah.

Blue Sky: Please allow longer videos. I enjoy posting of music and movie videos on the other place.
Blue Sky team, you're building something special and great here. Keep at it. Stick with it. And please don't sell it to an evil billionaire who's going to come around waving a lot of money to gobble it up.

Sincerely, a Happy Blue Sky user.

Who is he going to call to get those officers? Ghostbusters? Plus, elementary school math says that if you double officers in one place, you half them in another.
Not a mandate.

I don't care how many times they say it, he didn't even win a majority of the popular vote & barely more than his opponent. A win, sure. But a narrow one.

This bluster is meant to bowl over opposition, but the reality is that they have a thin margin that they'll inevitably lose.
Tom Homan: "If I gotta send twice as many officers to LA because we're not getting any assistance, then that's what we're going to do. We got a mandate. President Trump is serious about this. I'm serious about it. This is gonna happen with or without you."

I don't usually post items behind a paywall, but this article by @daralind.bsky.social best reflects my view of the deportation threat. Trump is going after immigrants, but deporting large numbers will be difficult. Lets not panic.
November 21, 2024 at 4:05 PM
Despite the nominations and appointments of hard core anti-immigrants, what will happen is unclear. My advice to undocumented immigrants? Don’t panic. Be careful, stay away from bad dudes and dudesses, and viva su vida.
November 21, 2024 at 3:41 AM
Not to be pollyannaish, but the Trump cabinet appointments will make it hard for him to implement his mass deportation plans. Those plans require careful planning and an understanding of constitutional and statutory restrictions on executive action. This group ain't got that.
November 13, 2024 at 10:58 PM
Today’s announcements of Steve Miller as a Deputy Chief of Staff and a nasty ICE guy Honan as the Border Czar confirm that Trump is serious about going after immigrants. But it won’t be as easy as he thinks. They say go back, we say fight back.
November 11, 2024 at 11:41 PM
It is important to emphasize just how difficult mass deportations are and that efforts under the prior Trump presidency failed. We need to fight, fight, fight but not instill fear, fear, fear.
Seriously, they held signs up at the RNC about this and got basically no pushback on what it would actually look like.

One of the reasons that we chose to write our big report on mass deportations is that nobody was asking these questions.

Trump says he will end birthright citizenship first day. Nah! Even this SCOTUS won’t go for that and the law suits are ready to go to challenge.

First post on this site:

Immigration crackdowns will happen, but not at the scale Trump promises. Likely first focus will be on those with criminal records and outstanding deportation orders just like in Trump's first effort.
