Myself and two girlfriends attended weekly showings, in full makeup, for the better part of my senior year in high school. the air was thick in palpable lust, weed, and toast. It wasn't exactly a moral highpoint in my life, but the unrepressed shenanigans that ensued will always be remembered.

I’ve often taught that depression is the secret sauce of artistic endeavors. Not all creatives are depressed, but a lot of depressed people are creatives. The trick is to keep creating despite the sometimes paralyzing ennui. Turning sadness into art is my way of “self medicating.”

People with no talent or vision can’t see beyond the “literal.” Creatives consume the literal and produce unfettered visions of what could be. These are the same people who won’t accept a portrait unless it is photo life like. An artist’s vision is interpretive by design.
