On the Ides of March I went for a walk in my rural New Brunswick (Canada) neighbourhood. There are signs of spring wherever you look. Ice is gone from the beaver pond, streams, and fields. It was 8ºC and the sun shining brightly in a clear sky.

It's still a winter wonderland here in New Brunswick, Canada, as this ice covered hillside field attests with a huge lone naked maple tree standing sentinel at its summit.

The key to survival in these turbulent times is not to ignore what's happening or bury our heads in the sand. At the same time, find ways to include laughter and joy in the little things and the people you care about. That is what makes life worth living.

Our family! Lucy, the caico kitty, has been with us for 3 years. She came from our local cat rescue organization SOS (Save our Strays). Her big brother, Harley, is a nine-year-old Standard Poodle. He used to be black but is now turning gray (like the rest of us).
