For people interested in lore about mushi, I recommend watching the anime Mushishi. Description in the alt text.

Description of the anime: Perceived as strange and alien, inferior and grotesque. These are beings that appear entirely unlike flora and fauna familiar to us. Since time immemorial, man has feared the misshapen ones. Over time, they came to be know as Mushi. The appearance of Mushi can cause grave harm to humans, and only a select few humans know of their existence and can see them. Ginko, a Mushi-shi, travels the land to investigate the Mushi. But his special ability comes at a price: he cannot stay at any place for too long, or the Mushi will congregate there, endangering those close to him. So, the gentle and wise man must keep on traveling, trying to resolve Mushi-related supernatural occurrences.

I grew kohlrabi in my garden this year and it was actually kind of perfect. There were over 20 caterpillars of Large white (Pieris brassicae) eating away at the leaves, but with kohlrabi you mainly eat the tuber-like stem. So it's a win-win situation. Now I'm finding pupae everywhere in my garden.

Polygala vulgaris, small dark blueish purple flowers amidst the green leaves of other plants. Betonica officinalis, a cluster of bright pink flowers atop of a stem. Similar to a dead nettle. Scabiosa columbaria, after flowering. It forms a dome shaped ending on the stem with several craters with white edges and green insides. From the insides several black hairs protrude outward, giving it an alien appearance. Teucrium chamaedrys, flowering close up. There are several brown buds and finished flowers on the left side. In the middle there is a single light pink flower with a large bottom lip. The stamens is sticking out at the top.

Also, the seedling I dug up from the open soil at a nearby construction site has turned out to be Cucurbita maxima (🇳🇱 Reuzenkalebas). It has its first flower now ❤️

(I couldn't resist finding out what it was, so I had to take one and save it from certain death).

Yesterday I found a whole group of Goudknopje in a former agricultural field turned to nature in Friesland, the Netherlands. They grew in a lower area of the field, that becomes waterlogged after copious rain. It was accompanied by 🇳🇱 Moerasdroogbloem (Gnaphalium uliginosum).

Sunday I finally found a plant Ive been searching for for years: 🇳🇱 Goudknopje (Cotula coronopifolia).

It normally grows on sand flats that occasionally flood. Not an easy place to reach. So I've seen it from a distance, but it never grew in a place where I could get close to it.

Wat mij verbaasde: Drinkwaterbedrijven moeten boerenbedrijven vergoedingen betalen als zij drinkwater ontrekken uit de grond. Een mooi voorbeeld van hoe bedrijfsbelang boven publiek belang gaat in NL. Zeker als je bedenkt dat lage grondwaterstanden voor boeren worden gehandhaafd.
Drinkwaterbedrijven onttrekken ongeveer 750 miljoen m3 grondwater per jaar voor de drinkwatervoorziening. Slechts een deel van de schade die landbouwbedrijven hierdoor lijden, wordt vergoed. Door daling van de grondwaterstand lijden landbouwbedrijven droogteschade. Bijvoorbeeld door een verminderde gewasopbrengst. De wet bepaalt dat drinkwaterbedrijven die schade moeten vergoeden.
