Walking shouldn’t be a health risk.

But extreme heat is making many streets too hot to use — especially for kids, older adults, and those without cars.

Pavement and public space design can reduce surface temps by 20°C.

Cool streets = walkable streets.

👨‍🦽‍➡️ Walking is the first and last step of every public transport journey, and its quality can make or break the experience.

From wide, smooth footpaths to long waits at crossings, the walking environment deeply shapes whether people choose to walk to the bus, tram or metro.
