We're caught in a trap. I can't walk out.
Frankly, it makes the news better by making everything a double entendre.

That's crazy. I wonder if anyone's ever written about this before. Pic unrelated.

Another question to answer is: who is doing less reading? If it turns out the drop is highly concentrated among retirees, then that doesn't really say much about working. You could say that later retirement is responsible, and it probably has a big effect on the 55-64 group's time, but less on 65+

I get a certain vibe from "talk AI," "talk business," and "talk healthcare." Feels like that omits some pretty important context.

The difference is that I'm looking at an annual chart and you're looking at a terrible one with data points every 5 years. New starts dropped in 2023 and 2024, and they're expected to be much lower again in 2025. They'll go back up (probably never to 2022 rates, but up) as rents are expected to rise

Ross Perot was very successful as a 3rd party candidate in large part because people were dissatisfied with H.W. and the direction of the country after 12 years of Republican presidency. The decisive factor in '92 was clearly that people didn't much like Bush.

Unemployment was an example of pandemic era aid that expired under Biden, maybe by itself wasn't a huge deal, but when you look at it as part of a larger suite of social safety net policies that fell under Biden, they're collectively very significant.
