(They/Them)
I make videogames as "Two Headed Deer". I also do level design for other games informed by my degree and career in architecture.
Current project: UDLR

To move this to the GPU, I baked what I call an Animation Map that targets the appropriate UVs for every tile at every animation frame. The tileset is repeated 8 times vertically, and each tile jumps from one set to the next on every animation tick.

Someone made a video that shouts out my 2017 TF2 map mvm_steep. Neat!

Palette-swapped an already artpassed level and I don't hate how it looks? Definitely needs some tweaking. Makes me want to go back and add more harsh contrast like this to older levels.

I've been working on UDLR the last week or two but it's all backend stuff. Completely overhauled the editor's file management UI. It used to just put every level in a single giant list, but now it shows only one chapter at a time. Much easier to navigate the 200+ level files in the game.

Worked on UDLR in earnest for the first time in a few months. Today I happened upon a pack of scanned textures of paper (and other materials) and decided it was time to replace what I had. Now the paper textures have some randomness, and have a different style of texture for each chapter!

Modern brick walls often aren't actually load-bearing and are only a single "wythe" (layer) deep. "Header" bricks like that one don't serve any unique structural purpose in this case, but architects are finding all sorts of fun ways to still make brick walls "3D".

Doing art for every puzzle is certainly a lot of time and effort, but it's been worthwhile. This tileset is so much fun to work with, and I'm really excited for people to see all the art when it's done.

Someone pointed out to me that "Quincy Quadrants" is a silly name given that "Quincy" refers to the number five, not four. Oops.

Reintroducing: Clover! I don't know if Clover even knows they have a name. All they know is collecting tokens.

All tuckered out from solving puzzles? UDLR now features the ability to take a nap. This is what I spent my afternoon implementing instead of savefile checksums.

I invented Quincy Quadrants as a joke, but people really seem to like them! I'm keeping them and giving them a bit of personality.

Focus testing UDLR has revealed that players engage more strongly with a game when the player character is easier to emotionally identify with. Thus, I am happy to announce that puzzle games have a new gender-nonspecific character! Say hello to your new best friend, Quincy Quadrants:
