The value of music seems to have degraded from when I was a kid. Back then, you had to at least have /some/ familiarity with music, but these days, music seems like an increasingly niche pursuit

In ye olde days, songs would fall in and out of rotation on the radio or on MTV, and we'd move on to the next new release. Nowadays, with streaming giving us access to a vast library of old music, why would we want to listen to anything new?

It also feels weird to have witnessed the decline in real time. In 2018 rap held the mainstream in a chokehold, and then it all just slowly went away

The big hope for continued pop success is Lee Greenwood, whose got the only crossover hit of the year, "God Bless the USA." The chapter is funny because otherwise no one respects the guy; if not for the twang he'd be an easy listening artist being played next to Air Supply
