I get that. I do listen to a few select podcasts when I’m cooking only. They’re on serious subjects so I see them sort of as audiobooks on nonfiction. About an hour and half of dedicated listening when I do that.

I don’t enjoy audiobooks. Something about the audio medium is too disruptive for me. I prefer text.

I’ve not been able to enjoy a Pratchett book in full in the past as it feels like he starts great and loses steam. So I was surprised I made it through nearly half of this one before I even looked up and realised it was 2 a.m. It’s good to know this is one of the good ones.

Discworld does go down easy after all the effortful reading I’ve been doing of translations, Asian women authors, historical fiction accounts by colonised nations etc. I don’t like what it means about the colonisation of my mind that I find comfort & ease in a dead white man’s humour.

That’s a grim but realistic observation.

Out of curiosity, what age bracket is the far right recruitment zone?

I mean, how terrible is the crisis of masculinity that they can live through four decades of life handed to them on a platter, go through the world, build careers & relationships and fail and still not know how to relate to women as human beings?
