🚨TAKE ACTION🚨

In the dead of night, Ron DeSantis ordered part of the Pulse memorial painted over. That’s why we’re calling on everyone in Orlando to show up for a peaceful gathering today at the Pulse Memorial at 6:00pm ET.

While politically connected vendors get astronomically high contracts, just one of them $78 million, people detained in the Everglades are often being fed rotten food, given half a bar of soap, and there’s insufficient medicine. A person with asthma was never given an inhaler.
DeSantis continues to use emergency orders to steer millions of taxpayer dollars to politically connected contractors without a competitive bidding process. Just one company (Critical Response Strategies) involved in the Everglades detention camp got a $78 million contract!

Horrific conditions detailed to us by family members of those detained in the Everglades detention camp:

The humidity is intolerable, and the fluorescent lighting is on all day and night. The air conditioning is turned off during the day for five hours.

If you’re wondering how much public money the state is spending to staff this immigrant detention center in the middle of the Everglades, look no further as we have the contract for CRS (Critical Response Strategy). They are the ones “managing” the facility.

In a blow to transparency, DHS updated the policy for members of Congress who want to visit immigration detention centers. New guidance asks members to give 72 hours notice. It also says ICE "retains the sole and unreviewable discretion to deny a request.”

NEW ESTIMATES: The policy reported here—adding a state cost-share for #SNAP that ramps up to 22.5%—would impose $23.65 billion in new costs on states just in the first year it's fully phased in. This would likely lead to deep cuts to food assistance. State numbers in link below⤵️

Cities across Florida have the legal ability to outright reject 287g agreements, which deputize police to conduct immigration enforcement. I explain the legality for this in the video below. Of course they need the political will to do it, but they do have the legal cover.

A law rolling back some of the harsh anti-immigrant measures passed in Florida in recent years has been introduced in the state legislature. It would help combat inflation and worker shortages but Republicans who control the legislature won’t give it a hearing. Why are they afraid to hear this law?

New from me: It’s no coincidence that inflation ticked up 3% in January amid tariff threats and harsher immigration enforcement operations. Our economy and supply chains are dependent on immigrant labor. Going after that workforce means higher prices for consumer goods in our supermarkets.
Commentary: Stricter immigration policy hastens Florida labor shortage
It might seem like good politics to present a hard line on immigration at the moment, but it’s bad policy.
