Just leaving this here. Andrew Little could have given Ray Chung the cold shoulder from day one. But oh no, he had to help out his bros. bsky.app/profile/bewa...
And he overlooked the very experienced Rebecca Matthews in favour of Chung and brand new right wing councillors like Karl the ice cream man. Five minutes into the job and he's done nothing but validate all my worst fears about him.

These people don't think beyond giving a contract to their mates for things we don't need and don't want...

Can't have the ferries we need, but can have the tunnel we don't

Not to mention that $3.8bn is a lot more than the final cost of Transmission Gully that is a whole 27km long.

A tram from the train station to the airport is surely a better alternative for $3.8bn (or - who knows - ~$8bn after cost overruns)

That’ll help commuters and Wellingtonians too, not just the people needing to drive to the airport. 🤷‍♂️

So their argument is that Solar is good for the local economy? It’s a good one I must say. 🤷🏽

It’s probably even more than that

“This was separate from ongoing maintenance and repair costs”.

$32m for 2025/26 alone. If that’s every year that’s another $800m.

Why do we do PPP again?

I checked car rego costs this morning.

Current levies are:

PETROL: $144.22 per year

DIESEL/ELECTRIC: $212.84 per year

Anyone would think this shabby govt is trying to dissuade the public from going electric...?!🙄

Oil companies will be happy-as-Larry.

There are no easy choices, but betting on hydrogen has proven to be the wrong one.

Sure some policies, subsidies or grants will delay all that, but the question is for how long. 🤷‍♂️

Reminds me a lot about the protectionism of the US car industry from Japanese manufacturers.

Yeah, there is a lot of concern for suppliers and the whole third party network.
It’s just if you don’t compete you’ll eventually be outcompeted and loose (or significantly shrink) not just the suppliers, but also the OEMs.

Porsche experienced part of that with their falling sales in China already.

The economic sense is so extremely in favour of renewables now, Pakistan is even paying Qatar penalties to rather NOT deliver the fossil gas that Pakistan already placed orders for, because their Solar PV and batteries make much more sense.

It saves them money to cancel their gas imports and pay!
So Pakistan is *paying* Qatar to *not* deliver LNG because even including this penalty payment their solar PV and battery spending is much better value for money and saves them billions.

How fascinating!

This reminds me of the misinformation campaigns from the UK. E.g. Luton (caused by a diesel)
