For that you need a wave that is larger than there is precedent for, the equivalent of a thousand year flood. Probably at least a D+12 environment to get into that territory. At that point the reach Senate seats (Texas, Ohio, Alaska, etc) start falling.

They literally are going to pull out 'ephebophilia'. They're caricatures of themselves.

This is what winning looks like. All the worst people crawling into holes.

Some of them, I assume, are good people.

Okay that is hilarious. No Dem was more likely to be involved than Bill Clinton. Reps don't even get a consolation prize.

Yeah I have a feeling Trump is regretting re-opening the government now.

Maybe you don't think any of that is worth the real effects the shutdown had on people. That's fair, but I disagree. Because the only way we're gonna improve things is to get these bastards out of power.

Democrats did achieve something- they put spotlight on the ACA subsidies, and showed the country how happy Republicans are to starve people. Look at Trump's approval rating- the shutdown has been one of the few things (along with the liberation day tariffs and Epstein) that's hurt him.

Our job is to survive. Build a party that is actually suited to the moment and able to enact change. Protect each other in the small ways we can while the world rolls over us. And its to knife these bastards every moment we can, bring them down to the point where they can never take power again

I came to terms with this a year ago, cried myself to sleep on election night. A LOT of pain and misery is coming to the people in this country and around the world. The worst is yet to come and there is no stopping it.

I don't think Democrats played their hand optimally. They could have inflicted more political consequences on Republicans if they'd held out longer. I'm frustrated that they didn't. BUT, if you want to protect people, there's no substitute for winning elections (and with the right people).
November 13, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Its comforting to think that if we made the right decisions and fought hard enough, we can protect people. But that ship sailed last year. Now all that's left is to sort through the remaining choices to find the less bad ones.
November 13, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Suppose the Dems kept the shutdown going. Millions of people starve. Republicans probably don't cave, because starving people on SNAP is a bonus to them (see how Trump was trying to starve more people, faster). There is no choice that Dems could have made that wouldn't result in mass suffering.
