As you may know, Back to the Future has been re-released to mark its 40th anniversary. That’s one of the films that I watched as a kid at the Kingsway, back in the mid-80s, so what better film to start this undertaking?

So where to go? Thought we’d start with the nearest one - the Hippodrome in Bo’ness. According to wikipedia, it’s the oldest purpose-built cinema in Scotland. It first opened in 1912, closed in 1980, reopened in 2009, and, despite living so close, we’ve never been - until this week.

But still, I love the cinema.
When I was a youngster, there wasn’t a lot of spare cash in our house, and we lived in a pretty quiet village with not a lot to do, so going to the Kingsway in Galashiels was a real treat.

I first ran into a game system which prompted the players to think about how their character might connect to other PCs when I started playing the Star Wars RPG in the early 90s. It was basic (“your Smuggler may have the Wookiee as copilot”), but got you thinking.

3 things that have inspired games what I have run:
1. Doctor Who. Well, of course. That show has inspired most of the creative things I’ve done since I was about three years old….

Three “journeys” that aren’t technically related to RPGs, but put me in mind of them:
1. The Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd leads an expedition across the radioactive heart of the former USA, aiming to save the people of Mega-City Two from a deadly plague.

My favourite tavern? It’s the Bar With No Name, the supervillain hangout used in many Marvel Comics over the years. Famously shot up by the Scourge of the Underworld, the BWNN provides a handy place for supervillains to hang out in a non-violent environment,
