Her enthusiasm for Boris Johnson goes so deep that she has invented an entirely fictional universe in order to defend him.

My review of Nadine Dorries' latest book.

Nadine Dorries's book is full of astonishing conspiracies, from Mossad to gay orgy networks
Her theories about plots to undermine Tory prime ministers are paranoid fantasies - you have to admire her chutzpah if nothing else

1. The difference so far (and for god's sake let's keep it that way) between X and Bluesky is not between right and left but between abuse and respect.
A good society is built on mutual respect. But what does this mean?

Expert shuts down Robinson’s suggestion that the “crises” impacting attitudes to refugees in Germany include violent attacks.

“Looking at overall crime numbers we can’t say refugees contribute to a large extent.” Corrects him that she means crises like the pandemic & war in Ukraine #r4today

Wow. According to this image it looks like nurses - whose real-terms pay has declined by at least 20% since 2010 are responsible for driving up UK borrowing. Thanks for clearing that up BBCNews

A man describes in perfect English how he escaped torture by the Taliban.

He explains why he wants to come to the UK “because I speak English”. It’s quite simple.

He believes neither France nor Germany will help him. He knows the risk of death.
He needs a safe, regulated route. #r4today

Reform MP James McMurdock (won his seat by 98 votes) didn't disclose his conviction for assaulting his partner before the GE

The Times now reveals he "kicked his girlfriend" repeatedly

I love that Kohli, on the last ball of the day, thought he had something so urgent to impart to the best bowler in the world who also happens to be his captain. Bumrah, albeit graciously, didn’t give the impression he was listening.

Wow. Imagine the shock for the Daily Mail when it finds out Tory plans were for fines of £5k - later reduced to £3k - for each missed heat pump sale. What Ed Miliband has done is to reduce that to £500. As @torstenbell.bsky.social says today Headline should read “Miliband slashes Tory boiler tax”

Lazy repetition of tropes like “more and more people are trying to get here” without context, evidence, or explanation is simply not acceptable.

This is one of the most trusted voices in the British media speaking - and it drives fear of scarcity & being overwhelmed that is not justified. #r4today

On what basis is the claim made by Nick Robinson that “more & more people” want to make the journey to Europe through Turkey?

What evidence is there for that?

I doubt there is any. Is BBC #r4today now just making up scaremongering about migration as they go along🤦‍♀️

What would actually provide a sense of control would be to REGULATE the exisiting immigration that currently takes place in utter chaos run by smugglers because our politicians keep pretending that "smash the gangs" or "stop the boats" will get us anywhere.

We can regulate it through safe pathways.

I think that as we move away from it gradually it's quite easy to forget or underplay the degree of catastrophic incompetence and failure of the last government.

One example is shown here in the data showing surging refugee homelessness & rough sleeping. www.bigissue.com/news/social-...

In fact, one year of crossings down, another year up, one quarter where this route sees more traffic & another where that one does is ultimately details.

Overall, irregular migration into Europe is not at record highs, but it is high, & efforts to make it disappear tend to kill. #r4today

On the other place, Nick Robinson himself took the time to respond to my question about evidence for his claim that “more & more people” are coming to Europe through Turkey.

What an honour. Too bad his stats are out of date.

With farm owners protesting today over the prospect of paying a highly discounted inheritence tax, I'm sure you've seen quotes about how they "feed the nation".

But nobody is talking about the migrant workers who actually pick the crops on horticulture farms, so here's a short thread about them.

What is unknown: How the judge plans to fix it.

My proposal: We need to break up Google’s monopoly on search data to promote competition.

Opinion | Breaking Up Google Isn’t Nearly Enough
To end Google’s monopoly on search, the company should be required to disgorge its data on what we’re searching for.
