I keep putting minimalist Markdown in my Mastodon posts because I'm eternally optimistic that the default UI will display it one day.

Markdown is pretty readable on its own, and one day _all_ my old posts will spring to life and become typographically beautiful.

Here’s an inspiring presentation from John o’Nolan of ghost.org.

It’s the best explanation I’ve seen of the Fediverse as the escape hatch from the cesspit of commercial social media.

I know it's not enough, but watching the video where the world's diplomats walked out on Benjamin Netanyahu felt like maybe we can end the genocide together.

So, Donald is fixing rising carbon levels the same way he fixed COVID…

COVID: ban testing because “you’re going to find more cases”.

CO2: “kill those satellites, the measurements hurt our feelings”.

… and this is why you shouldn’t trust the AI summary

Searching for “Westpac passkeys”, the AI summary was:

"Westpac is adopting passkeys as a secure and user-friendly way to access online banking services, offering a passwordless login experience."

The word “passkeys” was a link to another […]

Journalists: If your headline says that so-and-so is suing someone for x billion dollars, you're doing PR for the plaintiff.

Anyone can sue anyone else for any amount of money. The requested amount is nothing but clickbait.

That's why you keep falling for it, I suppose […]

How quickly we take for granted the awesome...

I opened a page in German so, naturally, I just said "translate this for me". I was momentarily infuriated when it asked what language... DAMMIT! YOU FIGURE IT OUT!

Then I remembered how frickin' amazing this is in the first place.

Outside all the houses in my street today. How is this still a thing?

I wonder how many even have the plastic wrapper removed?

@snopes has arrived on Mastodon.

It's great to see organisations dragging themselves out of the Meta/Xitter swamp and great to follow some independent fact-checking without having to get dirty.

Please don't parrot the "Sputnik moment" BS regarding the alleged Chinese "AI" breakthrough.

Even if DeepSeek is the real thing, the wailing from the US tech bros looks mostly like a ploy to get taxpayers to spend 100s of billions of their dollars to further enrich US AI companies and their […]

Awwww… what a touching story.

Battlers Harry and Meghan decide to take Murdoch to court and make them accountable rather than settling for…

…wait… how much?

Never mind, we’ll take the settlement and make our dragon hoard taller. Haha. Sucks to be you, peasants […]

The Pixelfed Kickstarter is up and running!

I'm not sure when it kicked off, but I got the email four hours ago and it's already flying along.

I don't even use Pixelfed (yet) but I've backed it anyway. The Fediverse is the only light in the social media landscape at the moment and @dansup is […]
