🌊 The Arctic is losing its ice and gaining too much light.

A new study finds ocean brightness could double by 2100, reshaping marine life, turning it less polar and more Atlantic

The world is way off track.

The 2025 State of Climate Action report finds that none of the 45 key sectors —from energy to food to transport —are aligned with 1.5 °C.

The reality of inaction has caught up.

Peer-reviewed studies show lifetime emissions from ~70 to 180+ gCO₂/kWh in worst cases, i.e low sunlight, short lifespan,
inefficient tech, high-carbon manufacturing

Modern PV: 20–50 gCO₂/kWh

...but outliers ≠ norm

It is not my area of direct expertise, but my understanding is that total life cycle GHG emissions from solar PV systems are similar to those of other renewables and nuclear energy, and much lower than those of coal/oil/gas.

Really enjoyed speaking with the #NERC GW4+ DTLP PGR cohort today about EDI in research and beyond. Such thoughtful discussion and genuine curiosity — exciting to see the next generation of researchers starting to think about inclusive leadership for the future

I’m on vacation walking in the Dolomites.

Today I hiked near the Marmolada glacier - what was once a vast mass of ice is now streaked with bare rock and thinning fast.

Just looked it up: the glacier has retreated ~7 m in the past year alone

🌊 Plastics aren’t just polluting the ocean, they might be messing with the marine carbon cycle too.

A new study argues plastics could disrupt how the ocean captures and stores CO₂.

A hidden climate risk? 👇

How does summer 2025 compare to summer 1976

Summer 2025 was the UK’s hottest ever, not just brief heatwaves, but relentless warmth day and night

What was once a 1-in-340-year event now happens every 5 years
