The last 4 I had whilst working my way through the 1001 albums to listen to before you die

Only 2 of these I ever intend to listen to all the way through again…

I mean, there’s also this

Album 1000 of the 1001 albums reached today

Only another 100 or so to go

I either really like Tom Waits or really hate him

Let’s see which camp this falls into

The Thursday Murder Club

God this was poor

Not the biggest fan of the book but it was ok

This had the perfect cast (a miscast Pierce Brosnan excepted) and yet was just the most tedious watch

A script that asked nothing of its cast and less of it’s audience

It may have been a cliche but this was the poster on my wall at university

A forever freeze frame now both Newman and Redford are gone

Epilepsy is the cruelest of bastards and strikes without warning

My boy’s day began with smiles in the park

It ends with a ride to A&E in the back of an ambulance

I quite like early 90’s French hip-hop

Who knew?

The Parallax View

Peak 70’s thriller that feels like it demands an immediate rewatch to unpick it all

Also feels like a film that would work as well if remade for 2025

Astonishing cinematography, shot composition and sound design

Strong contender for the most overrated album ever for me to listen to today

Just because he can’t talk it doesn’t mean my son can’t communicate

I think E is enjoying his holiday at the seaside

A Stroke of the Pen

This collection of Pratchett’s early stories is remarkable for two reasons

1 - just how much of his writing style was in place from an early age*

2 - most of these aren’t actually that good and give little clue as to the writer he would become.

*footnotes!

Reversal of Fortune

What a very, very oddly structured film

Characters and subplots came and went. Climactic scenes took place off screen. Jeremy Irons with perhaps the frostiest Oscar winning performance in history.

Not uninteresting but - crucially - also not that good

Quick, there’s a problem trackside and only Mike Krack can solve it!

Wyrd Sisters

I decided to begin with the one that really established my love of the Discworld some 30 years ago

Still as funny and brilliantly observed as ever

Plus I got a lot more of jokes now I’ve actually done Macbeth (thank you son’s GCSE English)

I’ve not read any Terry Pratchett since he died

From being in the fan club and writing short stories set on Discworld (I was a cool teenager…) to nothing at all because I just found it too upsetting

But I managed the biography last year and since then I’ve had an urge to start a #rePratchetting

For the record me and my daughter did the D-x entrance

Luckily I can’t see any way that HHH or HBK could end up with a complicated legacy that tarnishes this memory…

One of the great joys of being a parent is watching your kids achieve things that are so far beyond your capabilities and imagination it leaves you speechless

This one won a bronze medal at the English National Trampolining Championships

That one smashed it as Princess Fiona in her Year 6 play

Get to claim a small sliver of Tour de France glory as just realised these little ads that are being shown whenever ITV go to a break are filmed on the corner of our road!
