I wrote for @huffpost.com on why the government's plans to slash welfare spending are a cruel, unnecessary choice. Time to start taxing wealth fairly instead of stripping away support from those who can least afford to lose it.

Today I joined staff and parents outside Highbury Quadrant and St. Jude’s primary schools, both facing closure.

This would be devastating for our community. Well done to all those who are campaigning to keep them open — you have my full support.

We have got to stop kidding ourselves that appeasing Trump & trying to please him gains us any leverage, any guarantees, any reliable favour.

Today, we have launched our preliminary ballot on pay and funding.

The government’s unfunded 2.8% pay rise will mean schools have to make cuts to staff, resources or both.

It’s time to act – vote now 👉 NEUActivate.com

Regardless of whether you support increasing defence spending, this - and indeed any policy - should never be paid for by the poorest, either in the UK or overseas.

This is a political choice, not a necessity, and it is the wrong one.

Shameful.

Labour talk about difficult decisions and tough choices.

The choice this time? To cut the foreign aid budget.

Why are the 'difficult choices' never taxing the wealth of the super rich?

Many are asking what lessons the Labour Party can learn from the rise of the far right in Germany.

The answer? When social democratic governments fail to deliver, they open the door to extremists.

We need common-sense socialist policies to tackle inequality, not scapegoats.

Imagine between them the reach & power of these papers.
The fact is they are using that power to instil Trumpist hate & we are ill-equipped to resist.
