Me: Not yet, decomposition takes a long time.
Her: Decomposition?
Me: *explains decomposition*
Her: Oh. We need to bury her.
Me: 🫣 we will tomorrow after the funeral

My grandma died last week (my pet rat, Rocko, also died the day after but that’s besides the point) and tomorrow is the funeral so I’m just trying to prepare my daughter for that and our conversation about it made me laugh:

Considering how long I’ve cut ties with that part of my family and never really felt a sense of loss about it, it does actually make a difference. Everything feels lighter, now. A massive weight has been lifted. Feels really good.

It is a huge relief. Like, we actually feel free to go wherever we want and do whatever we want without worrying if he’s going to pop back into our lives and screw everything up. I was able to let go of a lot of fear with that today, and it was wonderful.

Cycle and so I could never quite be free of it as long as I was in contact with them. Well, very long story short, the women in my life who were still a part of it broke out of it today, and in doing so, helped us all finally cut ties once and for all (specifically with my dad)…

And most importantly, take care of yourself. Bring your favorite food/snacks, plenty of water, take breaks when you need to, and enjoy the process ❤️(10/10)
