I graduated from high school in 1984, I can't recall being assigned many full books to read back then either. We read all the time, but after the book reports of elementary school, I can't think of many full books being assigned. DODDS schools in Germany.
In American high schools, many teenagers are assigned few full books to read from beginning to end — often just one or two per year, according to researchers and thousands of responses to an informal reader survey by The New York Times. trib.al/gNp7kWK
