I know this because I write historical romance and have spent time trying to figure out the citizenship of some of my characters, and apparently I take that more seriously than legal academics take the task of *checks notes* stripping innocent children of US citizenship.

We had treaties with Prussia and Mexico specifically saying that we would revoke citizenship of someone who later became citizens of their country as long as they did the reverse.

That's why you're seeing these cases.

They are about the Bancroft Treaties, which were anti-dual-nationality treaties, in which having citizenship in another country was treated as revoking your US citizenship.
