Biggar Library recommends Heart of a Dog by Mikhail Bulgakov. In post-revolution Moscow, a stray dog is rescued by a successful scientist and surgeon. Soon the dog's comfortable new life is turned on its head when the Professor conducts a radical surgery which transforms the dog into a human hybrid, with disastrous consequences. Written 100 years ago, this classic novella is absurd and humorous and provides a biting satire of post-revolution Russian society. Recommended by Beth.

Today marks 250 years of Jane Austen! Did you know all her novels published in her lifetime were done so anonymously? However, by the time Mansfield Park came out, the secret was out and her brother Henry may have been partially to blame! Austen wanted her work to be judged on merit, not gender.
