There are no doubt numerous theses written on toxic masculinity in the genre, particularly with the shadow of Deadwood hanging over everything, but Strange Empire is well worth a watch on its own terms!

As you see from the trailer, it’s a female led Western, with some supernatural elements (but kept in the background).

Remarkably, Cara Gee is even better in this, considering it was made before The Expanse. Really terrific performance from her and the whole cast. It’s a real shame it only got one season. Deserved much more.
