The story I told in class was one I told on Twitter years ago. I'll port it over here, lightly edited, for safekeeping:

About a decade ago I took my kids, then eleven and seven, to Paris for the first time. One morning we were wandering around our neighborhood there, and came across a small park.

I flew to Amsterdam (+6 hours)
DST ended in the EU (-1 hour)
I flew back to Detroit (-5 hours)
DST ended in the US (-1 hour)

So yeah, my sleep schedule might be a little weird right now.

With Rend Collective’s Rescuer and the ancient hymn Be Thou My Vision, this week’s worship set is pretty Celtic! As always, I’ll be playing Irish whistle with the music team. Join us in person or online at 10:45AM ET www.youtube.com/live/iDNaTb1...

Pretty good Labour Day! Two loads of laundry, a trip to Lowe’s in my rattiest Saturday shirt, and a new lamp in the bedroom. The dresser is, of course, already covered in piles of clothes again.

I've been having a rough go of it this year with often overwhelming anxiety and building depression. Struggling to cope this past week, Thursday's devotion on brokenness and Psalm 34:18 was comforting.

Discovered this week I’m incapable of typing the name “Charlie” without first typing “Charlier” and I don’t know why.

This month’s soundtrack is a whiplash mix of pop and theology. 😆

Thanks to a desk job and working remote most of the time, I now remember deodorant maybe 1 out of 6 times I leave the house.

I’m at the office today for a team meeting, and it’s not that one time.

“A lot of people are hurting and don’t feel significant,” he said. “They try to find significance by attacking people they think others will find significant.” When he saw those critics and others coming after him, he didn’t feel attacked. He saw it as a prayer request and prayed accordingly.

On this day in 1851, Sojourner Truth delivered her famous speech, “Ain’t I a Woman?”

The downside to having a tick-sized mole on your forearm is that you are only ever one casual glance away from a heart attack while hiking alone in the woods.

I haven’t figured out the upside yet.

After 11-year-old Aderrien Murry called to report a domestic distrubance at his home, an Indianola, Mississippi, police officer shot him in the chest.

"‘Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?'” his mother heard him say.

He's recovering; the officer is on paid leave.

People that deny racism, or like to try to start diaspora wars, chalk this up to Nigerian parents valuing education, and Black US parents not valuing it. This is a lie.

If you ask Black people that went to school in the US and Nigeria 🙋🏿‍♂️ they'll tell you that the delta is the pervasive racism.

Yup.

If I can see *my own invite tree* then I can "come get my people." That's how it works in Black communities.👍🏿

If I can see *your invite tree* then I'm tempted to "come get your people" or "group punish" you, for who you invited. Or extend my harassment of you to include people you invited.👎🏿

So my evening is going pretty great! How about you?
