of the songs from Lorde's debut, I prefer the triple whammy of Ribs->Buzzcut Season->Team. Royals is a fine song, incredibly influential, but as a song I personally prefer bad guy

Ughhh i like Lorde more overall (Solar Power notwithstanding), but I think “bad guy” is the better song. Billie might be the more consistent artist, but Lorde has the peaks and my heart. Since this is Song vs. Song though…

Royals is the more important one. In my mind, it had a Smells Like Teen Spirit-sized effect on pop music. It killed (or at least crippled) the late 00s/early 10s dance music boom and shifted pop music in a more dour, introspective direction. (But I prefer Bad Guy as a song.)
