An unshakable alliance so I heard. Keir will straighten it out with them I'm sure, like the forensic statesman that he is

I didn't get as much mileage out of "any other leader would be 20 points ahead" as I hoped because they're so comically bad and have no one else. Not going to let this one slip though!

Yes. You asked what if world was righteous and good. This is what Israel should have been doing every day since 1948 and a terrorist attack doesn't change the right thing to do.

If no apology, at least offer hostage exchange. After all, how many hostages was military action ever likely to return?

An apology for ethnic cleansing in 1948, compensation for the deaths of their families and stolen land, and forcing Palestinians to live under occupation/siege for decades. For the hostages, offer an exchange for all the Palestinian hostages held in Israeli jails without charge. Would bea good start

Similar age to you, I don't remember any particular cruelty about asylum seekers in school, but verbatim repeating RW propaganda about Afghanistan/Iraq wars being good and necessary, they were all terrorists etc.

It confused the hell out of me for years that anyone could think like that

I'm surprised it's so high!

Well, that is the million dollar e question isn't it.

A cynic might say that the British press are happy to bullshit us until it gets too embarrassing and it no longer serves their purpose, then act like it was a big surprise

I think even that's generous. They look like a Reform tribute act because they have Reform-like policies. Plus their comms are shit

It's great to see. The sooner Labour is dead, the better
September 3, 2025 at 8:28 AM
Yeah it always bugged me. "Let's all laugh at poor people" is definitely how it comes across which is not cool. Like the "chav" underclass discourse all over again

Nothing has changed, except that he has the chance to sort Garage out but just agrees with him instead!

This broken pledge is a good reminder of how dishonest he is

Ye that is the goal, but the tech doesn't work yet, and the paper didn't convince me otherwise.

The time period they talk about is more likely due to readjustment after COVID, higher difficulty in getting funding, and everyone noticing that Musk could fire 80% of twitter and still keep it running.

Well fuck. I had hoped everyone who warned about it was worrying too much but clearly they were right to, and I was wrong. I was waiting to see before making a decision but this is pretty conclusive.

Makes the decision of whether to move from Greens a lot easier. Zack for PM!

We did, sort of. But I think that LLMs are just an acceleration of a trend of MGMT not being willing to invest in people. Hopefully in a few years they'll realise what a terrible mistake they made before seniors start retiring, and LLMs are still shit but cost more

I don't expect miracles. To fill the tax coffers they could raise income tax, CGT or wealth tax. Instead they targeted disabled people and pensioners.

They're using the private sector for the NHS already, and planning to mortgage even more away with PFI.

Not going in the right direction really

If only Labour had a huge majority to do something useful instead of repeating far right talking points there would be no need to slag them off...
August 23, 2025 at 8:32 AM
Well, she is right...
August 19, 2025 at 7:50 AM
Largely the same. The cumulative set of problems from 1979 (or even 2008) would not have gone away, and we still have the same groups trying to do the same things

The mistake being pandering to right wing loons and continually voting for the lesser evil until the only choice left was between genocide, and genocide with domestic internment camps?

This clip from Question Time during the 2019 General Election is regularly on my mind because the angry confidence of this man to wrongly assert he's not even making average income despite being in the Top 5% of earners is staggering. In his mind, he's a working class hero, not definitionally rich.

I bought a book by Sophia McDougall because of a post about some hate mail she got. And bought an Adrian Tchaikovsky book because of a post by John Scalzi.

Since I usually use libro.fm which doesn't do recommendations so much, bluesky is starting to become useful for me to discover new books
