Alphabets appear not only in illuminated manuscripts, but also administrative documents.

In this 13th-century coroner's report, the clerk wrote the letter R 24 times, then "Richard son of Geoffrey", then part of the alphabet. Note the last 4 letters look like HOPE or NOPE, which I find funny. 🧵2/3

I come from a family passionate about history, but I knew I wanted to study it when I wrote an 8 pages essay in one panick-filled sleepless night about medieval polychromy and managed to get a great score. I thought: I like doing this and when I half arse it it still kinda works? Damn sign me up
