Speaking as a former shitty person, misogyny is never a bonding influence. It frames all other men as competition, requiring performative masculinity to maintain status in an antisocial hierarchy. It doesn’t address male loneliness; it actively makes it worse.
this is a good thread but I might actually take it further -- I don't think manosphere shit is actually about getting laid, I think it's literally about male loneliness, by which I mean, men addressing their loneliness via homosocial bonding through misogyny
at that point, you often see them let go of their pretensions towards being a Player and just go full Handmaiden's Tale. It's where they always were, but they deluded themselves into thinking it could be fun and frivolous

Probably related to the existing trend of a declining social safety net requiring ever increasing amounts of work in a professional environment devaluing workers creating negative sum competition for dwindling resources just to survive, which then crashed into really good video games.
Though I'm actually a bit confused on the causation. The idea that American masculinity prevents friendships between men sounds totally plausible to me, but are masculinity norms *that* much worse now than they were in 1990? Something has to explain the huge shift.
