Oh absolutely. So much of Steam's stability and quality comes down to the ownership and the fact that it's not a public company. It could so easily slide into the capitalism pit though.

Fair point, but Steam at least seems ready to remove DRM in the case of shutdown. That remains to be seen, of course.

That I'm not sure. I would guess it's somewhere in the Intermediate or Saved folders which you should be able to safely delete. Back up first though, of course.

I think when viewing the main level, it uses a cache of stuff in its instances, so maybe the cache has the lights while the level instance file is actually empty. Might have to rebuild it (or find an old version in the Autosaves folder). 😬
