I've been a #Sony fanboi most of my life after growing up suckling at the PlayStation teat (FF, SH, RE, MGS, GT, Crash...), but in the current video game landscape, I want nothing more than Valve to succeed here and disrupt the industry.

(Also, only one USB-C port?!)

I know this is super basic, but I made a road spline for level blockout. My lazy ass is usually fine tediously brute forcing the basic way (which, of course, is actually harder), but I could not stand shuffling these stupid meshes around anymore.

Silent Hill f is gorgeous, but I couldn't really get into that combat. I know, hot take... Fox arm is pretty sick though (ignoring the fact that it's a horrible mutilation and removal of Hinako's agency).

I'm thrilled to be building a new game, but I'm also kinda terrified. I have no idea how I'm going to fill so many buildings with 3D assets. I had enough trouble with a few basic rooms. 😬

UE5 gets a lot of hate, but it can scale surprisingly well. Epic is pushing buzzy features for pretty graphics, but they can all be turned off. And unless you target only the most powerful machines, the virtualization pipeline is, ironically, a LOT more work.

I've spent the past few weeks writing out the story and locking down art direction and gameplay mechanics for my next game. I haven't touched my dev machine, and it's killing me not having "worked on anything". But I know now from my last game how important this part is.

After years of working (struggling) with #UE5, I am FINALLY feeling comfortable with it. Being able to understand the in-depth tutorials now feels amazing. Unreal is a beast, but it can be tamed. Keep at it, y'all! You'll get there! 👨‍💻🎮

Now that Snooze is past the release sales spike, I'm debating on how much I should put into drawing back interest. NGL, I got addicted to watching the sales count go up and am bummed since it stopped. But hey, I'm happy it did well at all. And an update is still coming!

Helpful #gamedev tip -- When saving your game, if you're overwriting a previous save DON'T open that file for write access. Depending on OS and your library and moon phases, this may set up for corruption if the program is interrupted. Instead, save a new file and rename it to overwrite.

Unreal tip: Use blocking volumes for invisible walls. Seems obvious, but I found a lot of YouTube tutorials suggesting static mesh with disabled visibility or transparent material. Those are still going to have a performance cost. BVs don't need to render.
